The Rev. Dr. Jamison J. Hardy

The Rev. Dr. Jamison Hardy is the President of the Concordia University System.  He was born in Bay City and raised in Flint and Westland, Michigan. Following High School, Jamison continued his Lutheran education at Concordia University in Mequon, WI where he pursued a degree in Secondary Education-Broad Field Social Sciences.  Upon graduating, Jamison enrolled at Concordia Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN. He was ordained on December 10, 2000, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Westland, MI and called to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania. While there, Pastor Hardy worked with Concordia Lutheran Ministries by sitting on the board of directors, both on the parent board, and chairing the personnel and Missions and Ministries committees. It was with CLM that he traveled to Kenya, Sudan, and South Africa more than 20 times. In 2007-2008, Our Savior Lutheran Church in Mt. Lebanon, PA and Hope Lutheran Church in McMurray, PA merged into Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Hardy as the pastor of the merged congregation meeting at the McMurray location. After teaching as an adjunct at Community College of Allegheny County. Pastor Hardy began his graduate studies in 2009 in the master’s in public policy.  He then continued with his doctorate in Business Administration from Walden University in Baltimore, graduating in 2012.  In 2009, he was elected as the vice president of English District of the LCMS. He also served on the Peters Township School Board of Directors and the McMurray Rotary Club #7330.

In June 2015, Pastor Hardy was elected as the 21st President and Bishop of the English District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod at its 55th regular convention. Bishop Hardy taught classes at Concordia Theological Seminary in the Doctor of Ministry program on parish administration and pastoral leadership.  He also recorded the PALS module for the LCMS on the same topic.  He has presented at several conferences and led workshops on mercy works of faith and love. Bishop Hardy was awarded the Distinguish Alumnus Award from Concordia University, Mequon, WI in May 2021. In October of the same year, he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for wrestling at Concordia University, Mequon, WI.

In May 2024, the Concordia University System (CUS) extended a divine call to Dr. Hardy to serve as its next president, and after prayerful consideration, he accepted it. Under Dr. Hardy’s leadership, CUS has organized its protocols for visiting all CUS campuses and assisting them in carrying out their mission and objectives. He continues to serve in the pastoral ministry as an Associate Pastor at Our Savior, Hartland, MI. He and his wife, Wendy, have three children.

The Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Spittel

The Rev. Dr. Douglas Spittel is the Vice President of the Concordia University System. He graduated from Concordia College, Ann Arbor, and Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne. He was ordained in 1990 and served for thirty-four years in the Pittsburgh area at John Huss Lutheran Church in Arnold, PA, and First Trinity Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh. While in the parish, he studied at Duquesne University and graduated from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and the Antiochian House of Studies, writing on spiritual formation in late adolescence. He served on the Board of Directors at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, PA, and as the President and CEO of Pittsburgh Area Lutheran Ministries. Over the years, he was directly involved in establishing several mission churches, campus ministries, and mercy outreach plants. His work now includes the implementation of synodical visitations to all the Concordia Universities and facilitating cooperative growth among them. He and his wife, Leigh, reside in Virginia and have four grown children and a grandchild.

The Rev. Dr. Paul Philp

The Rev. Dr. Paul A. Philp is the Executive Director of Concordia University Education Network (CUEnet). He also serves as Assistant to the President of the Concordia University System (CUS). He has served in both of these capacities since September 2024. In these positions he serves the colleges and universities of the CUS in their joint operation of CUEnet, strategic planning for the same, and as the CUS representative to the Colloquy Committee for the Commissioned Ministry of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS).

A Michigan native, Philp graduated from Concordia College Nebraska (now Concordia University Nebraska) in Seward, NE, in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and pre-seminary studies. He received a Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1999. He returned to Concordia Seminary and completed a Master of Sacred Theology in 2007. Philp was awarded the post-master’s certificate in enrollment management jointly by Capella University in Minneapolis, MN, and Noel-Levitz higher education consultants in 2010. He graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in education with a concentration in Leadership in Higher Education from Capella University in 2013.

Following his ordination in 1999, Philp served as associate pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Faribault, MN. He also taught as an adjunct faculty member at Cannon Valley Lutheran High School in Morristown, MN, during its first year of operation. In 2003, he was called as the sole pastor of Peace Lutheran Church. Following the completion of his Master of Sacred Theology, Philp served as an admissions counselor at Concordia Seminary. Before joining CUS, he was Director of Academic Programming and Curriculum Assessment at Concordia Seminary. He was called to serve the CUS in 2014 as the Director of Institutional Research and Integrity. In this role, he worked collaboratively with CUS institutions in matters related to Lutheran identity, curriculum review and assessment, and coordination of best practices. Philp served as a liaison to various LCMS departments, ministries, and entities in their work with CUS institutions. Philp also served as the chairman of the Education and Program Committee for the International Lutheran Society of Wittenberg. He has served on various congregational and school boards; he served as the chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee at his past congregation.

Dr. Philp is married to Sharon, a native of Terra Bella, CA.  They have been blessed with two daughters.
